If the POS station is going to use a cash drawer than the receipt printer will be connected to the cash drawer with a cable (the cable looks just like a telephone cable – but it isn’t) The cable is very specific to this function so you must have the correct cable for that particular printer and cash drawer.
Driver Installation
There are four primary configurations for receipt/kitchen/bar printers:
-
The printer is physically attached the computer.
-
The printer is physically attached to another computer and the drivers are installed on the local computer.
-
The printer is located independently on the network (printer has ethernet port to directly connect to the network instead of being USB connected to a computer) and the drivers are installed on each computer that needs to access the printer.
-
The printer is physically attached to another computer and is shared on the network using windows sharing function and accessed from other computers by using a share name (not a recommended configuration).
We support all these configurations in the POS. The important part is that you can print a test page from windows to prove that that printer is working prior to trying to configure the printer in the POS.
Uncommon problem – Printing a test page from windows works fine, but when trying to configure printer in POS it will not print configuration slips. In these cases try to configure it as a shared printer and point at the share name in the POS. A possible reason for this problem is that the computer does not have a login with a password when it starts. Go to security settings for printer and explicitly add the user that is logged in (there may be "everyone" in the list with the correct permissions but this does not seem to help) and give them permissions. Failing this the only option left is to share the printer and add it to the POS as a shared printer
