* Some PCs do not have TLS 1.2 enabled (especially Windows 7). Download and run this script to enable TLS 1.2 in the registry.

Make sure the computer has an internet connection by opening a browser and going to a site you do not normally go too (e.g. www.ford.com).

If the POS cannot connect to the payment terminal then a popup will appear asking you to reboot the terminal.

  1. For the Magnetic Swipe Reader that can be done by unplugging the swiper from the USB slot and plugging it back in after about 15 seconds.
  2. Wait about 10 more seconds and exit the popup window.
  3. Now go to "Admin", then "Payment Terminal", click the "ETS Config" button and check all of the settings very carefully to make sure they are correct
  4. Click "OK" and try hitting "Test Connection", if the connection was successful you will see a success message within 15 seconds of pressing the button, if no message appears after 20 seconds then the connection is still failing.
  5. This may freeze the POS for a little bit and not allow you to do anything, a quick way to end this would be to force the POS to exit using task manager.

If you are having connectivity issue between the POS and the magnetic swipe reader make sure the POS is running in compatibility mode for all users. To do this:

Close the Point of Sale -> Right click on the Point of Sale desktop shortcut -> Click "Properties" -> Select the "Compatibility" tab -> Select "Change settings for all users" at the bottom -> check the box beside "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" -> select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" in the drop-down menu -> Click "Apply" and "OK" -> Click "OK". Then open the POS again and test the connection to see if the connection works now.

If you have verified that the settings are correct and that the computer has access to the internet than perform the following:

  1. Restart the POS Client – if the client will not close use task manager to end the program by right click on the task bar at the bottom of the screen and choosing task manager.
  2. Try initiating a transaction.
  3. If the previous step did not work then do the following.
  4. Shut down the POS client again.
  5. Try plugging the Card Swiper into a different USB Port.
  6. Start the POS client.
  7. Try initiating a transaction.
