Cash Drawer Not Opening (Connected via Receipt Printer)

If your cash drawer is not opening when completing a sale in Tee On, the issue is almost always related to the receipt printer settings in Windows, not the POS itself.

🔍 How It Works

In Tee On, the cash drawer opens through the receipt printer. When a receipt is printed, the printer sends a signal to trigger the drawer.

If that signal is disabled or misconfigured, the drawer will not open.

✅ Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

1. Confirm Proper Setup

  • The cash drawer must be plugged into the back of the receipt printer (RJ12 cable)
  • It should not connect directly to the computer

2. Test the Drawer Hardware

  • Use the key to manually open the drawer
  • If it does not open with the key, this is a hardware issue, not Tee On

3. Verify Tee On Is Printing Receipts

  • Complete a test sale in Tee On
  • Confirm a receipt prints
    • If no receipt prints, troubleshoot the printer connection first
    • If the receipt prints but the drawer doesn’t open, continue below

4. Check Printer Settings in Windows

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Select Devices and Printers
  3. Right-click your receipt printer (commonly:
    • Star SP700
    • Epson TM-T88 Series)
  4. Click Printer Properties
  5. Go to one of the following tabs (varies by model):
    • Device Settings
    • Peripheral Unit Settings
    • Cash Drawer

5. Enable the Cash Drawer Trigger

  • Locate the setting for Cash Drawer / Peripheral Unit
  • Set it to:
    • Open Drawer 1 (most common)
  • Apply/save changes

Notes:

  • Some printers refer to this as:
    • “Kick-Out Drawer”
    • “Peripheral Unit 1”
    • “Document Bottom”

6. Confirm Correct Printer Is Used in Tee On

  • Ensure Tee On is printing to the same printer the drawer is connected to
  • If multiple printers exist, this is a common issue

7. Check Printer Driver

  • Make sure you are using the official printer driver, not a generic one
  • If unsure:
    • Reinstall the correct driver from the manufacturer
    • Restart the computer

⚠️ Common Causes

  • Cash drawer trigger disabled in printer settings
  • Incorrect printer selected in Tee On
  • Generic printer driver installed
  • Drawer plugged into the wrong device
